4th Grade Common Core Worksheets

Standards-aligned worksheets covering most of 4th grade math, ELA, and writing — fourteen full 9-week packs ready to print.

This is our deepest grade × framework combination. Fourteen Common Core 4th grade packs, each one a 9-week scope-and-sequence with answer keys, parent guidance, and (for Week 1) free downloads with no email required.

Why so much 4th grade material? Two reasons. First, fourth grade is where families most often start hunting for outside resources — boxed curricula stop fitting, kids hit walls in math, and the writing program that worked in K-3 stops keeping up. Second, 4th grade is genuinely the year where worksheet design starts mattering. The math gets hard. Multi-digit multiplication and fractions are abstract enough that bad worksheet design — wrong scaffolding, too many problems per page, no visual model — actively makes them harder.

We tried to do better. Whether we succeeded is for you to judge after Week 1.

What Common Core Means at 4th Grade

If you’ve never poked around the actual Common Core standards, here’s the quick version. Fourth grade math is split into five strands. Operations and algebraic thinking covers the multi-step word problems and the factor-pairs work — the kind of “find all the factors of 36” that drives kids batty in October but pays off later. Number and operations in base ten is multi-digit math: place value all the way to a million, the standard column algorithms for addition, subtraction, and multiplication, and the introduction of long division. Fractions get their own strand and it’s a big one — equivalence, ordering, all four operations on fractions with like denominators, plus the conceptual link between fractions and decimals.

Measurement and data is units conversions, area, perimeter, line plots, and the first real work with measuring angles in degrees. Geometry is the smallest strand for 4th grade — it’s mostly about classifying shapes and identifying lines of symmetry.

ELA is bigger but less coherent. Reading splits into literature and informational text, with similar standards on each side. Writing has three modes (narrative, opinion, informational) plus a research strand. Language standards cover grammar, mechanics, and vocabulary. We have packs covering most of the writing and language strands; a 4th-grade-specific reading comprehension pack for informational text is in development.

What’s Live (and What Each One Does)

Math, in roughly the order most curricula teach them. The Multi-Digit Addition & Subtraction pack runs nine weeks of column-algorithm practice with numbers up to six digits — aligned to 4.NBT.B.4. Multi-Digit Multiplication handles single-digit × multi-digit and then two-digit × two-digit, aligned to 4.NBT.B.5. Factors & Multiples covers factor pairs and primes/composites within 100 (4.OA.B.4). Decimals & Percents walks through decimals to the hundredths and the conceptual link to fractions (4.NF.C.5-7). Geometry is angles, symmetry, and classifying figures (4.G.A.1-3). Measurement & Data handles unit conversions, area and perimeter, line plots, and angle measurement (4.MD.A and B).

For ELA, three packs are live. Fiction Comprehension is built around nine short passages, each followed by comprehension questions that escalate from “what happened” to “what does the author imply?” — aligned to RL.4.1-3 and RL.4.6. Grammar & Punctuation covers complex sentences, frequently confused words, comma rules, and the capitalization conventions kids are expected to nail before middle school (L.4.1-3). Informational Writing is research-style writing — organizing facts, structured introductions, conclusions that actually conclude something (W.4.2).

A handful of additional packs and a curriculum roadmap round out the catalog.

How to Use These

Three patterns work well, depending on your situation:

As your spine. Pick the topic, run the 9-week pack as written, do roughly one worksheet a day. Five worksheets per week × 9 weeks = 45 days of practice. With a buffer for review and re-teaching, this fills about a quarter of the school year per topic.

As a supplement. If you’re already running a curriculum but want extra practice on a specific topic, use just the weeks you need. The packs are designed so each week stands alone, even though they build on each other.

As intervention. If your kid is hitting a wall on a specific topic — multi-digit multiplication is the classic — start at Week 1 of the relevant pack regardless of where they “should” be. The first weeks are deliberately gentle. The confidence boost of getting Week 1 right matters more than where on the calendar you start.

Free vs. Paid

Week 1 of every pack is free with no email required. Weeks 2-9 are paid downloads — that’s how we keep the lights on. You can preview each pack in full before deciding, including looking at the answer keys, the standards alignment, and the actual worksheet designs.

If you only ever use the free Week 1 pages from every pack, you’d still have something like 70 worksheets covering most of 4th grade. We’re fine with that.

What’s Coming for 4th Grade Common Core

Reading comprehension for informational text is in active development — we have it for fiction but not for non-fiction passages yet. A division pack and a more thorough word-problem pack are also on the queue. If you have a specific request, tell us — we genuinely move things up when families ask.
