7th Grade Common Core Worksheets
Pre-algebra in math, real literary analysis in ELA, and physical science with quantitative measurement. Ten packs covering most of 7th grade Common Core.
Seventh grade Common Core is a setup year. Most of what’s covered exists because 8th-grade algebra and 8th-grade argumentative writing assume it. Skim 7th grade, and 8th grade gets brutal. Lock it in, and 8th grade is mostly applying what you already understand.
Our 7th grade catalog has ten packs covering most of the year’s expectations across math, ELA, and science.
What 7th Grade Common Core Covers
Math is pre-algebra in earnest. Operations with positive and negative numbers — across the rational number system, including fractions and decimals. Proportional reasoning extending the 6th-grade ratio work into percent problems (markup, markdown, tax, tip) and recognizing proportional relationships in tables and graphs. Algebraic manipulation that will be central to 8th-grade algebra — combining like terms, distributing, solving multi-step equations and inequalities. Geometry covering scale drawings, the geometry of triangles, area and circumference of circles, and surface area and volume of three-dimensional figures.
ELA gets noticeably harder. Reading expectations focus on close reading, inference from evidence, and analyzing how literary elements interact across a text. Writing expectations include real argumentative essays with multiple sources, narrative writing with developed characters and plot arcs, and informational writing on technical topics. Grammar moves into phrases and clauses, dangling modifiers, and the comma rules that need to be locked in before high school.
Science (NGSS) for 7th grade in most curricula is physical science — chemistry basics, forces and motion, energy transfer, waves. Quantitative measurement and unit work become real, not optional.
What’s Live for 7th Grade Common Core
Four math packs cover the core year. Integers & Rational Numbers handles operations across the full rational number system — positive and negative, fractions and decimals included. Aligned to 7.NS.A.1-3. Ratios & Proportional Relationships extends 6th-grade ratio work into proportional reasoning, percent problems, and recognizing proportional relationships in multiple representations. Expressions & Equations covers combining like terms, distributing, solving multi-step linear equations and inequalities. Geometry handles scale drawings, the geometry of triangles, area and circumference of circles, surface area and volume.
A note on integers: if your kid never quite locked in negative-number arithmetic in 6th grade, the Integers & Rational Numbers pack should be the first thing this year. Even if they “got it” — the first 2-3 weeks of this pack work great as a review and rarely waste a strong student’s time. Everything else in 7th grade math compounds on solid arithmetic with signed numbers; shakiness here will haunt the year.
For ELA, three packs cover the year’s expectations. Literary Analysis walks through analyzing how literary elements (point of view, theme, characterization) interact across a text. Reading Comprehension covers close reading of both fiction and informational text with practice on inference and evidence-based response. Grammar & Mechanics handles phrases and clauses, dangling modifiers, varied sentence structures, and the comma rules.
For science, Physical Science is the standalone pack — chemistry basics (atoms, elements, the periodic table), forces and motion, energy transfer, waves. Aligned to common middle-school NGSS scope-and-sequences.
Suggested Sequencing
For math, the recommended order is integers first (foundation), then expressions and equations (algebraic manipulation builds on solid arithmetic), then ratios and proportional relationships (applies the algebraic thinking), with geometry as a parallel track through the year or as a strong finish in spring. Statistics for 7th grade isn’t covered in a standalone pack yet — it’s the smallest math strand for this grade.
For ELA, the three packs are largely independent — grammar runs alongside the others as ongoing convention practice. Reading comprehension and literary analysis work well together; some families alternate weeks between them.
What’s Coming
A 7th-grade narrative writing pack and a 7th-grade argumentative writing pack are both in the queue. A 7th-grade statistics-and-probability pack is also planned (filling out the math strand that’s currently underrepresented). A life science pack for 7th grade is queued but lower priority since most 7th-grade curricula land on physical science.
