About Physical Science (Charlotte Mason)
This isn’t a typical science worksheet program. There are no fill-in-the-blank definitions, no label-the-diagram busywork, no multiple-choice questions about vocabulary terms. Instead, there are stories — rich, narrative passages about campfires, thunderstorms, honeybees, whale songs, fireflies, polar bears, and termite architects — that teach real physics through wonder.
Charlotte Mason believed children learn science best through direct observation of the natural world, supported by beautifully written “living books” rather than textbooks. This program follows that philosophy: each worksheet presents a narrative passage that teaches energy, heat, sound, light, or wave science through a natural phenomenon, then asks students to narrate (retell in their own words), observe (go outside and look), and record (nature journal entries).
Nine Weeks of Nature Science
Weeks 1-2 explore energy and heat through campfires, sunlight, frost, hot springs, desert extremes, and animal insulation. Weeks 3-4 cover sound and light through birdsong, whale communication, rainbows, fireflies, and how your eyes and ears work. Week 5 introduces waves through pond ripples, music, earthquakes, and the electromagnetic spectrum. Week 6 brings electricity alive through lightning, static, electric eels, and Edison’s world-changing night. Week 7 traces energy conversion through photosynthesis, food chains, and the water cycle. Week 8 shows how engineers copy nature (biomimicry), and Week 9 is a portfolio assessment.
Every passage connects back to one source: the sun. Charlotte Mason valued seeing connections over memorizing facts, and this program weaves a single thread — solar energy — through every topic.
