The Lost Kite

Mia loved flying her red kite at the park. One windy Saturday morning, she ran across the big grassy field, holding the string tight. The kite soared high above the trees.

Then a strong gust of wind pulled the string right out of her hands. The kite flew over the fence and into Mr. Ruiz’s backyard. Mia felt her stomach drop.

She walked over to the fence and peeked through the boards. She could see the kite stuck in a bush. Mia was too shy to knock on the door by herself, so she ran home and asked her dad for help.

Together, they walked to Mr. Ruiz’s house and knocked. Mr. Ruiz smiled and said, “I was wondering whose kite that was!” He handed it back to Mia and even helped untangle the string. Mia thanked him and held the string extra tight the rest of the day.
